Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has certified the “M Project,” a redevelopment of the MUFG Bank headquarters in Chiyoda, Tokyo, as a qualified private urban renewal project within a designated urgent redevelopment zone.
Led by Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, the project involves constructing a 28-story, 4-basement mixed-use building with a total floor area of approximately 168,670 square meters. In addition to financial operations, the new complex will include halls, lounge spaces, and commercial facilities, aiming to function as an international business hub.
The development will also enhance urban connectivity by incorporating indoor and outdoor public spaces, pedestrian pathways, and underground connections. Disaster resilience is a key feature, with emergency power systems, temporary shelters for stranded individuals, and disaster preparedness storage included.
Construction began on April 1, with completion scheduled for October 31, 2030.
